What to Expect

puppy1.png In your search for a veterinarian, we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. Our commitment to you is to continue to offer our world class service.

Your pet's annual vet check-up will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet's head, body and tail, and all the assorted cavities. Because even the most cooperative pet may not readily go-along with a tooth and gum brushing, an annual cleaning by your veterinarian maybe in order. Like you, your pet can lose his teeth due to decay and neglect. It's a good idea to keep an accurate medical diary not only of the procedures and vaccinations your pet receives at the vet, but also of notes on things like your pet's elimination habits and any physical changes or unusual occurrences. Keep track of small shifts in your pet's behavior, including urinary marking habits and mood swings, along with diet and routine modifications. Use this notebook when you talk to the vet. These seemingly unrelated occurrences may help explain results of your pet's medical tests. Also, if you need to change vets, it's good to have this journal to provide a complete medical history.

Choose a veterinarian who is calm, compassionate and willing to explain all the procedures your pet undergoes. Try to find a vet with whom both you and your pet feel comfortable. Try to have it convenient, choose a service with qualified staff and facilities to undertake surgery and perform procedures requiring anesthesia, such as teeth cleaning. Because of the general risks inherent to anesthesia, especially for very old, very young or very ill pets, your veterinarian will likely suggest a few exams, including a chest X-ray and lab work of blood and urine, before your pet is anesthetized. During the procedure he might need an IV drip; antibiotics may be necessary before and after.

Dr. Lowenstein may refer you to a specialist, veterinarians who have completed advanced studies in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care, if your pet must undergo a procedure that requires more precise knowledge and experience.

Read What Our Clients Say

Not only does he understand your pet, Dr. Lowenstein understands you. My cat never was happy about vet trips and over the years I grew less impressed with who had been a very good vet at one time. I felt I was not being heard and as a result, lack of addressing my concerns ended up adversely affecting my cat's health. Now with Dr. Lowenstein, I can have a real conversation about my cat and he does not treat anything slightly. Since seeing Dr. Lowenstein in early summer, I feel my 14-1/2 year old kitty is back on a better path without receiving a blanket diagnosis because one size truly does not fit all pets, and getting the right tests done to rule things out is helpful. The dr is available by text and phone and is always ready to help. He is really dedicated to animals and it shows. After having a few visits to my other vet this year, the cost is probably not all that much more (by Manhattan standards) and having a pet seen in the comfort of his/her home sans cabs or transportation can't be beat. Looking forward to our follow up appointment next month.

... dr. Bruce has walked me through everything I need to know about how to take the best care of my boy Leo and we could not be more pleased to be in his care. Dr. Bruce is a gem and service like this is not easy to find.

My husband and I were initially referred to Dr. Lowenstein after our 14-year-old dog had a seizure and was subsequently mishandled by a leading Upper Eastside veterinary hospital, causing severe cervical spine complications. We took our dog to yet other well-known UES hospital but their treatment failed, as well.... vet hospital referred us to Dr. Bruce Lowenstein who they said is an excellent emergency medicine...who makes house calls 24/7. Excellent he was.... he immediately went into emergency mode, showing my husband, a physician, where to deliver steroid injections and showing me how to hydrate the dog gently from the syringe. Within about 20 minutes our dog was drinking water. He lived another two years and in good health under the medical supervision of Dr. Lowenstein.… Dr. Lowenstein is also a superb diagnostician. He suspected that our second champion had Cushing's disease even though he tested negative for it. Years later, it turned out that he was right."

Dr. Lowenstein told me that Mittens was in heart failure. She was critical and needed to go into the hospital or she would pass away... I was not in a financial position to take her to the hospital, my other choice would be to help her pass peacefully. He then explained that we might be able to help her at home and I agreed as he went into critical care emergency mode. Dr. Lowenstein made one call and had an echo (sonogram) done within 90 minutes at my apartment. Once it was confirmed that she was in heart failure, he was so impressive, removing the fluid from her chest and abdomen and allowing her to breath easily again. He spent 6 hours working to save Mittens life. I have never met another doctor who would even think to spend that kind of time to save my cat and he did! 4 months later and Mittens is now sitting on my lap as I write this review....

Dr. Bruce is the best vet I have found in my 16 years of living in New York City... he is excellent at explaining all the options without losing his patience. This is a great quality since it is confusing and scary to make decisions with our pets health. He also pays close attention to your budget and explaining what would be your best option..... rides to the vet were always so stressful I feel that we save time and money and get better care in our home environment.

When I called to talk to Bruce, my cat was critical, he needed a kitty ER stat and Dr. Bruce calmly explained how urgent it was. He had never even met us yet!... I was reticent to go down the path I had with another elderly cat, one where vet after vet urged me to force care on an animal that should've been put down at an earlier time. Dr. Bruce understood my fears, but also spent TIME to discuss with me how I could find out if this was something I could humanely treat...Once reassured.... we forged ahead.... I had nearly gave up on my cat! Dr. Bruce sensibly and rationally addressed my concerns and fears while getting Reggie what he needed. Reggie is now thriving. I cannot thank Dr. Bruce enough for bringing the sanity and compassion back to veterinary care for pets and owners alike.
